Tuseday 12/6/11 Photo workshop

The workshop was interesting. I didn't make the whole thing because I was running late. I only missed about a half hour of the beginning but for the rest of the night I really tuned in to listen to these guys talk. I didn't feel like i learned much but i do feel like it was defiantly something any serious photographer should have checked out or should in the future go to because they talked about many different situations when you first start out in the field. I enjoyed listening to people ask questions about there own situations because those could be a question i have later on that now i won't have to ask only because they answered some questions the best way they could've. I really enjoyed going which is why I'm happy i didn't miss it. I ended up winning a raffle which was kinda cool too. I hope there is more events like this one in the future because i will most defiantly attend.

Photo

The past week I've beenworking on a lot of photoshop work which is really helping me understand how to work around my photographs for the better. I was in the lab and i came across a few different tools in photoshop that i haven't used yet until i was printing an assignment out for art 145. I never had to rotate an image before so i figured out how to do that. I also was playing around with the black and white selection tool which i also found intresting because i know ill get to use that later on in the future. Im going to continue editing so ill become better and better.

Jim Lennon Studio visit

Last week instead of our usual Monday photography seminar class we all went down the block from our school to visit and meet Jim Lennon and his Photography studio. After I finally got inside i started to notice all of his work posted up against the walls. I noticed a spot set up particularly for setting up projects and other types of work to shoot. I noticed a bunch of lights to light subjects in different styles and i noticed  massive amounts of Mac computers. While we were listening to Jim talk to us about how much you really need to dedicate yourself and how much you really need to put into photography for it to become a successful career for yourself, before you really even get anything back out of it really made me think but it actually made me really want it even more. I thought after seeing his studio and how much he has put into his work and career that this could very well much be something i want to continue to work at for myself.

White balances

We all had an assignment due for professor Keeners class today dealing with the different types of white balances. During this project you needed to be able to set a custom white balance as well. Before receiving this project to be completely honest i wouldn't even know where to start on setting a custom white balance for my particular camera. While shooting all of the different lighting styles i needed for the project i was really starting to get a feel for the custom white balance. I am excited about this because now i don't have to worry about color cast in any of my photographs now. I hope to be able to use my custom white balance really soon on my own time during my own pictures. Hopefully you can see the difference in the different white balances, in the pictures I put up.

Sisters first shoot.

The other day my sister came up to me with the idea of using this huge, incredibly vibrant red bush that is down the block from me in place for a background for some portraits. Right when we got there I just started to adjust my cameras settings and I noticed the sun starting to be blocked by some clouds and next to the bush stood a tree throwing off some shadows where we were standing onto my subjects face, which is why I decided to put a flash on. After taking a few photos with the flash I really started to enjoy how some of the pictures were turning out. Over the weekend I was actually at suffolk making up lab so after I got out I decided to go to lab for photo and print a few of my own favorites out of the bunch took. I took a good amount but I will post a couple. Enjoy

White balances

This week i was sitting in Keeners class and was assigned yet another project. Has nothing to do with Professor Keener, just making a point. I started reading the assignment and was pretty excited to start shooting already. This particlar assignment is based strictly on using white balances. The amount of lighting sources we need to shoot for this assignment really is going to allow us to come up with some really interesting photographs. I have been thinking about what I'm going to shoot and hopefully i will be able to post some photographs I've took, up on this blog already so people can see what Im capable of.

Magazine Analysis Assignment

The past Monday we were assigned an assignment that was based on finding out information about professional photographers in daily magazines that everyone reads. While researching for this paper i came across many different things that gave me many different ideas. I also learned some about how photographers that shoot for monthly magazines get to do some really interesting traveling and they get to experience alot of different cultures around the world. I picked a surf magazine after finding out that the magazine i originally picked up for this assignment was an yearly annual and couldn't be used. I was researching about a few different professional surf photographers and i found to really enjoy reading about their careers. I really hope to become someone useful in the photography industry one day because being able to see your own photo in a published magazine would be something else.

Edits in Photo shop

The past few days ive needed to catch up on a bunch of work. I was assigned this project for my digital photgraphy class and almost all of my prints didnt come out the way i wanted them to look. I started going down to the photo lab to catch up on all this work so i could have my prints finished the way i wanted them. I havent really had the chance to use a mac book until this year, im still not fimillar with them yet but im learning. While being in the photo lab this past friday i was working on burning and dodging i like this method of work in photo shop because to me it seemed some what easy to catch onto. I had success with making my prints lighter and darking in both situations my final prints came out much better. Im excited to continue working in photo shop and to learn much more about macs.

Lots of work

I started shooting my "In the air and on land" assignment this weekend as soon as i finished my other two projects for art 145. The other two assignments hopefully came out alright, I had to stay late on friday just so i could finish with all of my prints that are due tomorrow. I was told i should have at least shot my fourth assignment along with the two projects i need to turn in tommorrow this way after going over what we have done, i will have something els to work on. Tomorrow i will check all of my new photos i shot for the fourth assignment during class. Im very excited to see how they came out.

Photography

I havent done anything for any of my photography classes yet but i was hired to shoot a job today. My friends grandmas 90th birthday party was held at a catering hall. I went around and took photos of everything before people arived to show the scenery. After people started showing up I went around from table to table for group shots of everybody and the party. It was nice to capture the atmostphere of her birthday and make lasting memorys for her and her family. Im going to try and get the SD card back so i can share some of my work.
